The project
For three consecutive years, 2010 to 2012, I managed photography for the Banff World Media Festival, the annual television and digital media summit that takes over the Fairmont Banff Springs every June. I shot the festival myself and led the team covering it, from the red carpet and the Rockie Awards to keynotes, master classes, luncheons, meetings, sponsor events, parties and the attendees in between.
It was sprawling: several stages, dozens of events running at once across the hotel, and a steady stream of talent and executives to photograph. Over the three years that included Ricky Gervais, William Shatner, Howie Mandel, Lisa Kudrow, Ed Asner, Linda Ellerbee, Felicia Day, Caroline Rhea, Jeremy Hotz, Thom Beers and Ted Sarandos, alongside hundreds of producers, broadcasters and creators.
