The project

Opening titles for the first CAMP Festival in Calgary, introducing the speakers with one idea: fire as a creative force rather than a destructive one. The sequence runs in reverse, from charred, coal-covered ground back to a lush campsite by moonlight.

We built miniature sets, mountains, trees, a bonfire and a tent by a river, and burned them with dry ice and gunpowder, shooting in slow motion on a RED camera and running the footage backwards. The whole sequence was shot in a single day. The sound design gives the tactile miniatures a digital texture. The titles won an Anvil Award for best videography.
